Sharon Creech
Biography

Here's some info on (of course) Sharon Creech.

Where Does She Get Her Ideas?
Each book contains not one, but hundreds, maybe thousands, of little ideas. They usually come with those thoughts of her family or someone she'd seen at a bus stop. Many ideas in Walk Two Moons came from a single fortune cookie message: "Don't judge a man until you've walked two moons in his moccasins." From that came the ideas of a journey (walking along) and of Native American heritage and of people not being what they might at first seem to be. With The Wanderer, the idea to take characters on a sailing journey came from her own daughter's journey across the Atlantic, and Bloomability grew out of the time that my husband, children and I spent in Switzerland. Many ideas come during the revision process, after the first draft is written, when she begins tinkering with a scene. She'll think, 'What else is this character thinking or feeling?' and that will lead to a whole new scene, and that, in turn, will lead to other new scenes.

Avice from Sharon Creech:

"Read alot, live your life, listen and watch so that your mind fills up with millions of images."

Sharon's Childhood

Ms. Creech grew up in a "noisy and rowdy" family.  (Her family is alot

like Mary Lou Finney's in Absolutely Normal Chaos)

The people in this noisy, rowdy bunch include: her parents, Ann and Arvel, her sister, Sandy, and her three brothers, Doug, Dennis and Tom.

When Sharon was young she dreampt of being many things: a painter, a singer, an ice skater, a teacher, and a reporter. It soon became apparent that she had little drwaing talent, very limited tolerance for falling on ice, and absolutely no ability to stay on key while singing. Finnaly, she decided to become a teacher. Through this experience she became very interested and talented in writing. Her first novel, The Recital, an adult book, was not very poular. But, however, her first children's novel, Absolutely Normal Chaos was a big hit and everything went up-hill from there.
